One of the biggest music events of the summer is right around the corner. On July 7th, the Disco Biscuits will be celebrating their 10th anniversary of their Camp Bisco music festival, setting up camp at the beautiful Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, NY for the fifth straight year. The Florida music scene is going off! Great new grassroots fests are popping up week after week. Right on the heels of North Florida’s Purple Hatter’s Ball (review coming shortly) is the Bay area’s response. This weekend (5/20-22), the 2nd annual Orange Blossom Jamboree returns to Sertoma Youth Ranch (also site of the first AURA Music Fest) just north of Tampa. If memory serves me right, ultraviolet light is actually found in sunlight as well as being the catalyst behind making objects glow in the dark. That seemed to fit the theme of my weekend. The concept of invisible wavelengths traveling all the way through space simply to give me a three day sun burn is flattering on one hand but also does its best job of slowing me down. No rest for the weary and my mood brightens as I see the neon blue sign above the edifice of the Funky Buddha Lounge & Brewery in Boca Raton, FL. Approaching the building with camera and a half finished Purple Haze in hand, I remember thinking that the music might have to carry me tonight. At this venue, the lack of patrons sitting around outside is typically a sign that the band inside is bringing it. This was the case tonight. (more…)

There’s a strong connection in the North Florida triangle of Tallahassee, Jacksonville and Gainesville; and in the middle, there’s the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. The Rachel Morningstar Hoffman story is a tragic one indeed, however this tight community of music family pull together to celebrate her life at the annual Purple Hatters Ball held at this beautiful music park. With a solid assortment of acts from around the southeast; the three day, two stage line-up offers a lil something for everyone.
