Once again, we are very proud of the Sunday Night Cookout schedule that we’ve put together. We have four bands debuting at our favorite weekly gathering. The 5th finds local jam rock band, Bodhi, digging its roots into the sandy stage. Then on the 12th, local B-Boy funk machine Fusik follows up the Jam On It! B-Boy Battle at the Funky Buddha with their high-energy groove. On the 19th we welcome Lingo down from the Atlanta area as they continue to lay groundwork throughout the southeast. Finally, on the 26th Square’d, a new side project for Jessiah (drums) and Alan (keys) of Aquaphonics, will show off their heavy organ funk, giving you plenty of reason to get out on the holiday weekend. As always, there is a FREE BBQ (mojo-marinated chicken breast, sirloin burgers and foot-long hot dogs) from 6-8pm for all bar patrons. Be there!
Future Rock makes their first South Florida appearance in nearly two years at the Funky Buddha Lounge & Brewery in Boca Raton on Sunday 12/5/2010. Check out this recent exclusive interview with keyboardist Mickey Kellerman. Diocious will support.
Here’s an event we just can’t wait for…Brotherly Love Productions and Fusik present a 1vs1 B-Boy Battle in the Funky Buddha. Yes, the top breakdancers in Florida will be getting together to battle over a $200 cash prize LIVE to high-energy FUSIK funk on the beautiful hardwood floor of the Funky Buddha. Fusik has performed at similar events around the world including shows in Los Angeles, France, Spain and Italy and want to bring that international vibe to us. So, anyone that thinks they’ve got a sick worm or a tornado like headspin, come on by and show us what you’ve got!
With so much exciting music and burgeoning artistic talent spreading across the state these days, it is great to see people coming together to support it all. The more we share, the more we grow. Evidenced by the latest edition of WeMerge Magazine in which the BLP Babble column debuted its residency. The continuing efforts of the music and arts scene to support all the talented local acts are a real boon for us all. So everyone, pick up a copy and keep WeMerge’s message in mind…support the scene or there will be no scene to support!
Halloween is, hands down, the best party holiday of the year. Come on, you know what I mean. Multiple opportunities to dress as crazy as you’d like, act all wild and not lose face. Second to New Year’s Eve alone, it is the premier night for bands to let it all loose and for us to dig in to some serious live music. And this year is offering a solid opportunity to take full advantage. BLP is so excited for what we have worked up for you. So make sure to read on and start dreaming up the perfect costume.
Of course, the main event for those of us in South Florida is the Southern Monster Smash, featuring JJ Grey & Mofro, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, along with local favorites The Heavy Pets and Crazy Fingers and many others. When picking your costume, be prepared to bounce between two stages for 12 hours of the hottest shiz around. But hang on, that’s just the beginning; we also have three nights all set for ya with some serious potential energy.
First up, on Friday the 29th, Atlanta’s EP3 showcase their epic-electro-rock on the Buddha’s Bamboo Stage. I’m thinkin’ robot costume for this one. Then on Saturday the 30th, BLP’s official Monster Smash After Party featuring the fluid electro-soul of Aquaphonics. We’re feelin a water theme would be appropriate. In fact, plan on feeling like you’re “Under the Sea.” Then on Halloween proper, we give you an opportunity to wash away all that dirtiness. Lather Up! will be hosing us off with their super slick grooves at our BLP Sunday Night Cookout and Halloween Mixer at the Hurricane Bar & Lounge. All three nights will incorporate a costume contest with plenty of treats to reward your costume ingenuity. Since all three bands will also be featured at the Aura Music Festival, prizes will include tickets to the event along with bar tabs each night, hot new BLP merch, band and bar goodies. Pay attention for more details.
We’re excited to announce that we will be hosting Mark Karan & Jemimah Puddleduck on the intimate Bamboo Stage of the Funky Buddha Lounge & Brewery! While his RatDog bandmate, Bobby Weir, tours with Furthur and Scaring the Children, Karan joins up with his long time band Jemimah Puddleduck and is touring to suppert his first solo album Walk Through the Fire.
